Check the difference between personal gifting, wedding playback, video synchronization and commercial use before sharing your custom song.

Personal listening, gifting and personal non-commercial social posting are supported by Custom Song Gift's published policy, including posting the song itself. A wedding event, music combined with video, a monetized channel and an advertisement raise different permission questions. Buying a generation credit does not automatically transfer copyright or grant every one of those uses.

Start by describing what you will actually do with the recording. “It is for my wedding” is not specific enough: playing it at dinner, giving a private link to a partner and putting it under a videographer's film are different activities. The file may be the same, but the use and audience change.

This article explains the existing song usage-rights policy, checked on November 5, 2026. It is a help article, not a new licence or a replacement for the Terms of Service. An existing applicable contract takes precedence for rights it already grants.

Match the permission question to the actual use

“Not expressly covered” means the published terms do not settle the use. It does not mean every such project is prohibited, and it does not mean permission can be assumed. Get the unresolved scope confirmed before relying on it.

Keep personal audio posting separate from video. The existing policy does not restrict all social sharing to links: personal non-commercial posting of the song itself remains permitted. However, adding that music as the soundtrack to a video introduces a synchronization question. Calling the video private does not, by itself, answer that question.

Likewise, a wedding venue may have its own licensing and playback requirements. The fact that a recording is a gift does not establish what the venue needs for the event. Ask early enough to change your plan if the intended use cannot be confirmed.

Understand what Studio and payment do not establish

Studio's commercial-use feature is an account entitlement. It is not proof that every track is cleared for every commercial project or that video synchronization, advertising, redistribution and Content ID are included. The existing Studio entitlement remains in place; the question is the actual licence scope for the recording and use you have in mind.

Paying for credits also does not promise copyright registration, exclusivity or uniqueness. You retain whatever rights you already hold in your original lyrics, stories and photographs. That is different from receiving a transfer of every right in generated output. AI output may not qualify for copyright protection in every jurisdiction, and third-party clearance is not guaranteed by the purchase.

For example, a videographer may need to deliver a film to a paying couple and also post an excerpt in a business portfolio. Those are two uses. Permission for a private gift should not be silently stretched to cover the portfolio, an advertisement or future client projects. Describe each intended use separately when requesting confirmation.

Do not use an account badge or receipt as evidence of exclusive rights for Content ID. A rights registry can require proof that is different from proof of payment. Confirm eligibility with the service and registry before registering a recording or claiming other people's uploads.

A separate contract may already answer some of these questions. Preserve that document and identify the recording and rights it covers. This explanatory article does not narrow rights already granted under an applicable agreement.

Prepare a specific request before publishing or handing off the file

When support is available, sign in and use the site's support button or support tickets. Provide enough information to identify the project without sending unnecessary personal or payment data. A useful request is:

I would like written confirmation for song ___. My plan when the song was created was ___. I intend to use a link / audio file / video. The use is ___. The platform and audience are ___. It will / will not be monetized. The client, if any, is ___. The territory and intended duration are ___. Please confirm whether this scope is covered and identify any conditions.

Use the real song reference only in the appropriate support channel. Ticket availability does not promise instant clearance. Keep the response with your project records, and ensure the final use matches the approved scope. If the project later becomes an advertisement or gains a new distribution channel, check the changed use.

Also review the material you supplied. A personal song can contain someone else's photograph, borrowed lyrics or private family information. Permission to use the service does not create permission to use those materials. Follow the Acceptable Use rules and Privacy Policy.

Can I put the song in a wedding video? Request confirmation for synchronization and the intended publication. Do not infer it solely from buying the song.

Does Studio grant every commercial right? No. It includes commercial-use eligibility, but the specific project's licence scope needs confirmation.

Do I own exclusive copyright after paying? That is not promised by a credit purchase.

Is a gift link confidential? No. It is shareable, and people who receive it may forward it. Choose the story and photos accordingly.

Read the applicable formal policies and obtain any needed confirmation before publishing or delivering the recording to a client.
